MINNEAPOLIS - The Vikings' Christian Ponder threw two touchdown passes to tight end Kyle Rudolph and ran for another score as Minnesota gave the 49ers their first loss, 24-13 in a game that turned into a greased pigskin contest at the end.

The Vikings pulled out to a 17-3 halftime lead, gave up 10 points to San Francisco in the third quarter, then added the second Ponder-to-Rudolph TD hookup in the fourth.

In the last 3:30, Minnesota's Toby Gerhart fumbled three times, losing two of them, and San Francisco's Alex Smith threw an interception and lost a fumble of his own to seal the deal.

San Francisco claimed the first Gerhart fumble on a disputed call. Niner coach Jim Harbaugh called his final time out before throwing the challenge flag after officials initially ruled that Gerhart did not lose the ball. That should have prevented tthe challenge. But officials reviewed the play anyway and reversed the call.

Ponder threw for 198 yards on 21-of-35 passing. Smith hit 24 of 35 for 204 yards and one TD but threw one interception to Viking cornerback Josh Robinson. Ponder was not intercepted.
