Ave Maria University drops student health insurance in response to ...

Ave Maria University has announced that it will no longer offer a student insurance plan because of the Obama administration?s contraceptive mandate.

?Recently our insurance carrier notified the University that it was required by PPACA [Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act] to pay all claims for ?preventive care services? regardless of the fact that they are specifically excluded in the Ave Maria group plan,? said Jim Towey, president of the Florida university. ?The PPACA-required coverage of ?preventive care services,? such as abortion-inducing drugs, is an affront to our core values.?
