DAVIE, Fla. (AP) ? Joe Philbin did a little math and determined he has been in the coaching profession for 10,061 days. He figures that gives him sufficient experience to lead the Miami Dolphins.

The former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator was introduced as Miami's coach at a news conference Saturday. He says he has learned a lot in 28 years as an assistant and is optimistic he can succeed as a first-time head coach.

Philbin said his goal is to return the Dolphins to the top of the NFL, and he noted they haven't been there since 1973, the year of their most recent Super Bowl championship season.

Philbin had been with Green Bay since 2003, working as offensive coordinator since 2007 for one of the NFL's most prolific offenses.

If feds can bust Megaupload, why bother with anti-piracy bills?

A growing battle over copyright on the internet came to a head this week as digital protests scuttled two anti-piracy bills, police arrested Megaupload's millionaire filesharing pirate, and hackers brought down the Department of Justice website.

It was almost as if the thrums of digital artillery could be felt across millions of keyboards.

As some of the internet's biggest power players, including Google and Wikipedia, protested two fast-tracked anti-piracy bills going through Congress, the US Justice Department launched an attack on one of the web's biggest alleged scofflaws, Megaupload, and, in a counterattack, the hacker group Anonymous temporarily blacked out DOJ's website.

Techno-pundits and mainstream observers quickly connected the dots between anti-piracy protests and the Megaupload arrests, notching the dustup as potentially the biggest salvo yet in the multi-billion dollar internet copyright wars pitting, in essence, Hollywood and its Washington lobbyists against internet free speech and its hacker protectors.

?This week has been?the?week of copyright warfare, but the decision to nuke the king copyright violator so spectacularly only goes to show how little the feds need bigger bombs,? writes Sam Biddle on the tech-scene site Gizmodo.

The Justice Department has not commented on the timing of its arrest of Kim Dotcom (also known as Kim Schmitz), the high-flying millionaire CEO of Megaupload, who is now in custody and being prepared for extradition to the United States from his home base of Auckland, New Zealand. The arrests came after a two year investigation.

Megaupload was perhaps the most brazen of dozens of file-sharing sites, offering cash for particularly lucrative uploads and partnering with some big-name rappers in its barely-concealed bid to dispense and disperse pirated music and film. The site has 150 million members and makes up 4 percent of all daily traffic on the web.

But the decision by the Justice Department to net such a big, obvious fish at this time raised eyebrows among the internet cognoscenti, who posited that it was meant as a retort to populist digital forces that amassed in protest of the fast-tracking of two anti-piracy bills, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act (PIPA). Citing the protests, Congressional leaders forestalled the bills on Friday, saying they need more work.

Championed by the Motion Picture Association of America and the Chamber of Commerce, the anti-piracy bills would have broadened the Justice Department's justifications for seeking court orders against alleged copyright violators, prevented advertisers from doing business with such sites, banned search engines from listing them, and forced internet service providers to block the sites.

Canada hopeful US will approve Keystone pipeline

Obama called Prime Minister Stephen Harper to explain that the decision on Wednesday was not on the merits of the?pipeline?but rather on the 'arbitrary nature' of a Feb. 21 deadline for a decision.

President Barack Obama's decision to temporarily block a?pipeline?from Alberta to Texas went over badly in Canada, but Canadian officials are hopeful it eventually will be approved. Meanwhile, Canada will push harder for a?pipeline?to the Pacific Coast, where oil could be shipped to China.

Alberta Premier Alison Redford, the leader of the Canadian province that has the world's third-largest reserves of oil, said Thursday that while Canada is disappointed at Obama's decision, the government believes Obama has made it clear the U.S. would consider a new Keystone XL?pipeline?application with a new routing.

Obama called Prime Minister Stephen Harper to explain that the decision on Wednesday was not on the merits of the?pipeline?but rather on the "arbitrary nature" of a Feb. 21 deadline set by Republican legislators as part of a tax measure he signed, Harper's office said.

"The fact that the president has said that the decision was not based on the merits we take as a signal that there is an opportunity to make a decision that is in the national interest that allows the project to go ahead," Redford told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

TransCanada Corp., the?pipeline?company based in Calgary, Alberta, which proposed the Keystone XL?pipeline, quickly said it would reapply and said it expects the presidential permit to be processed in an expedited manner that would allow the?pipeline?to go online in late 2014.

In Washington, the proposed $7 billion?pipeline?has become a political hot potato.

Republicans ? who earlier put the president in the awkward position of having to make a decision on it before Feb. 21 ? now hope to force Obama to deal with it yet again before next November's presidential election. He wants to put it off beyond that.

Republican Rep. Fred Upton, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said he will call Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who recommended Obama's rejection, to testify at a hearing as early as next Wednesday.

"This is not the end of the fight. Republicans in Congress will continue to push this because it's good for our country and it's good for our economy and it's good for the American people," especially those who are out of work, said Republican House Speaker John Boehner.

Republicans are looking to drive a wedge between Obama and two key Democratic constituencies. Some labor unions support the?pipeline?as a job creator, while environmentalists fear it could lead to an oil spill disaster.

While TransCanada is prepared to reapply, it has no guarantee a new applicaiton will get quick approval.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Kerri-Ann Jones said she could not guarantee the review would be sped up, saying TransCanada would have to start anew.

But Redford is hopeful it can be fast-tracked.

"To start from the beginning would be something that would certainly take some time, and of course have a greater economic impact, so I hope there is a spirit to try to at least move this to a place where the discussions are real, and we can move through it and hopefully get the approval," Redford said.

The 1,700-mile (2,740-kilometer)?pipeline?proposed by TransCanada would carry 800,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta across six U.S. states to the Texas Gulf Coast, which has numerous refineries.

Obama previously expressed opposition to the plan, saying an alternate route was needed to avoid environmentally sensitive areas of Nebraska. But in an unrelated tax deal he cut with congressional Republicans, Obama had been boxed into making a decision by Feb. 21.

The prime minister's office said Harper expressed to Obama his "profound disappointment with the news" but that he hoped the?pipeline?would eventually be approved.

Natural Resource Minister Joe Oliver said it's clear the process is not yet over and said Canada is hopeful thepipeline?will be accepted on its merits.

Redford said Obama's decision adds urgency to Enbridge's proposed?pipeline?to the Pacific Coast of British Columbia that would allow Canadian oil to be shipped to Asia for the first time.

The project is undergoing a regulatory review in Canada.

"Asian markets are a very viable alternative. I say alternative, I probably shouldn't. It's not an either or situation. There's an opportunity here for us to grow our markets in both directions and we'd like to be able to do that," Redford said.

Canadian officials see the?pipeline?to the Pacific coast as critical as Canada seeks to diversify its energy customer base beyond the United States, which Canada relies on for 97 percent of its energy exports.

Alberta has more than 170 billion barrels of oil reserves. Daily production of 1.5 million barrels from the oil sands is expected to increase to 3.7 million in 2025. Only Saudi Arabia and Venezuela have more reserves.

Sinopec, a Chinese state-controlled oil company, has a stake in Enbridge's proposed $5.5 billion Northern Gateway?Pipeline. Chinese state-owned companies also have invested more than $16 billion in the oil sands in the last two years.

Tens of billions more are expected to be invested in Canada's oil sands if the Pacific?pipeline?is built.

There is fierce environmental and aboriginal opposition to the Pacific?pipeline, but Harper's government has called it a nation-building project that is crucial to the country's goal of becoming an energy super power.

House GOP to push for pipeline despite Obama move (AP)

BALTIMORE ? House Republicans say a fresh push for a 1,700-mile Canada-to-Texas pipeline could be part of a new round of negotiations over extending the payroll tax cut and benefits for the long-term unemployed.

House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton tells reporters the House leadership is looking at every option after President Barack Obama decided this week to block the $7 billion Keystone XL pipeline, at least temporarily. The Michigan Republican and other House GOP lawmakers argue that the decision was politically driven and will deny the nation both jobs and a new energy source.

Upton and the lawmakers spoke at the GOP's annual retreat in Baltimore.

A two-month extension of the Social Security tax cut and benefits expires Feb. 29, and negotiators hope to produce a new plan.

Sudan says oil deal with south depends on security (Reuters)

KHARTOUM (Reuters) ? Sudan will continue to take a share of oil from South Sudan to compensate for what it calls unpaid transit fees and said an oil deal was unlikely without an agreement on border and security issues, its foreign minister said on Wednesday.

South Sudan became Africa's newest nation in July under a 2005 peace deal that ended decades of civil war between north and south, but many issues remain unresolved, including oil, debt and violence on both sides of the poorly-defined border.

Tensions escalated last week when Khartoum said it had started confiscating oil from landlocked South Sudan, which exports its crude through Sudan's pipelines to a port on the Red Sea.

Sudan's economy has been badly hit by the loss of two-thirds of oil production to the South, and the country is under pressure to ease the hardships of people already exhausted by years of conflict, inflation and a U.S. trade embargo.

The two sides were meant to conclude an oil agreement that would see them sharing revenues, with the south paying fees to export its oil through the north.

The African Union is sponsoring talks between the two countries this week, but Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti dampened hopes of a quick deal, rejecting the south's criticism of its move as "childish."

"If they are not ready to sit down and conclude an agreement, we will take our right. We will take our entitlements," he told Reuters in an interview.

"Nobody can hamper us from taking our right. This is our entitlement," Karti said.

He said South Sudan's support for rebels in the border states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile was hindering the talks. Juba denies giving support to the insurgents, who fought as part of the southern army during the civil war.

"If you are hosting rebels, preparing them against me, supporting them by munitions, by salaries, by everything, by training, by giving them all facilities. What shall I wait for? What shall I wait for you to do? I'm waiting for war," he said.

"So if you are preparing to instigate war against me, what kind of any other agreement will be useful?"

He said Sudan had monitored conversations that proved Juba was supporting the rebels - known as the Sudan People's Liberation Movement Army (SPLA-N) - by continuing to pay their old salaries.

"We listen to them. They know that we listen to them. What kind of stupidity? You know I'm listening to what you say every day, and you go on talking about salaries, ammunition, supporting us, and bringing more tanks near the borders, and the rest," he said.

Any oil agreement would likely depend on a broader deal that addressed the fighting and other security issues, such as marking the border, Karti said.

"To me, it could be a holistic approach. A piecemeal way of doing things is not enough, and it proved not to be working. It's better to begin with the top issues - the security issue to me is very important - and then the rest will be easy," he said.

DEBT PILE

Sudan and South Sudan have been discussing a transit fee for southern oil exports since Juba's independence, but their positions have remained wide apart. Khartoum wants $1 billion in rear payments plus $36 a barrel to use the export pipeline, roughly a third of the South's export value.

South Sudan has offered to sell oil to Khartoum at discounted prices and give financial aid, but Karti said some southern officials had taken a "sarcastic" approach.

"Even some of them, sarcastically, they tell us that they are donors and they will give us some tens of millions, and they will be spending those millions on humanitarian issues, and trying to solve problems in the needy areas," he said.

"They talked to us like donors, whereas we are calling for them to sit down at a table to talk seriously," Karti said.

"(Saying we are) taking their oil, stealing their oil - this is childish," he said. "This is our right. If this does not (suit) them, let them block the oil. It is their oil. We will not at all fight for the oil to come through our pipeline."

He said a debt pile of almost $40 billion for which Juba refuses to share responsibility was weighing on the economy but rejected some analysts' forecasts that Sudan's economy is headed for a severe crisis.

"It is not bad. I will not accept this word," he said. "We are trying our best to emerge as a country that has good resources, and as a country that should be supported."

Most Western firms have shunned Sudan since the United States put a trade embargo in place in 1997 for the country's role in hosting prominent militants like Osama bin Laden.

Karti said Gulf Arab states were increasing their investments but Sudan would not ask for any outside help to overcome economic difficulties.

"We are not begging from anybody, we have our resources," he said.

"It's dainty. All of my tattoos are very feminine," Rimes wrote on her Twitter page Sunday, along with a photo of the ink on her foot, which features the phrase "the only one that matters."

Rimes told her Twitter followers Cibrian uttered the phrase to her during a recent vacation they took together.

Rimes' foot isn't the only place she's had inked with an inspirational phrase. In August, the bikini-clad star showed off the words "Still I Rise" -- the title of a Maya Angelou poem -- on her pelvic bone.

Though many have declared Rimes too thin, her husband Cibrian says his wife's body is "perfect."

Catholics in Poland parade a ?holy finger?

?It?s a finger from his right hand from which he often gave a blessing to St. Faustina.?

Roman Catholics in Poland is ready to take a "holy finger" out for a stroll.

The Most Rev. Edward Ozorowski, Archbishop of Bialystok, Poland, brought a relic of Blessed Michael Sopocko, who was St. Faustina?s confessor and spiritual director.

The principal celebrant at the Solemn Liturgy on Divine Mercy Sunday came bearing a special gift for the Marians of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

?It?s a finger from his right hand from which he often gave a blessing to St. Faustina,? explained Br. Andrew R. Maczynski, MIC, general promoter of the Association of Marian Helpers.

The relic, which came encased in a golden monstrance, is about 5 centimeters long. It will be placed in the National Shrine, which is administered by the Marians.

Bishop Ozorowski, in whose archdiocese Blessed Michael Sopocko was beatified Sept. 28, 2008, presented the gift during Holy Mass on Sunday.

?We express our sincere gratitude to His Excellency for making it possible that a relic of St. Faustina?s spiritual director will find its place here in the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy,? said Br. Chris Alar, MIC, during the presentation.

You have to be completely disconnected to dress up in parade uniform, and start to carry a bone on your shoulders.

?Blessed? Michael Sopocko might have put his finger into a lot during his lifetime. That one of his fingers has been cut of from his skeleton is yet another example of the how the bone collectors of Rome has looted corpses.

It is not so strange that Catholics wants to adore more than just a cut off finger. Inside the Shrine it will be entertained by a piece of a ?holy toe?

Was this toe just axed off, or did the priest take a big bite?
