How to start a business online and take it to the top | Toronto Web ...

Even with no experience and no investment

Old paradigm of thinking is you got to have lot of money and also lot of experience under your belt in case if you want to start a business and succeed in it. But in the Internet era, this old thinking has been shattered and many success stories have been created by people who have absolutely no experience or even money for that matter. Even then many people refuse to change with the new paradigm of thinking that is, you can start a business online and take it to the top even working from your home with no experience and no investment.

Today we see some smart school kids with some great ideas launching business and succeeding to the greatest heights shattering the old thoughts that only one way to succeed in life is going to school and having a good college education and working for a big corporation. It is not only about the young entrepreneurial success stories like Facebook, Twitter or YouTube etc. it is very common today to see school going and college going kids doing transactions over the Internet by selling some product or ideas and end up making more money than their parents and they pears. Today you can make a decision to take your existing off-line business online or start an online business with absolutely no business background.

If you are an entrepreneur, you already have a running business and as you know the power of Internet and you want to take your existing business online too then this is what we will do

1. Think of your web business as starting another branch operation for your existing business
2. Break the mindset of serving through your business only the local area [this not be the case if you are physical service provider]
3. Plan taking and handling orders through the medium of Internet [7 x24]
4. Write down how and where you are going to ship the products [in case of store]
5. Plan about the payment acceptance by online and even by mobile
6. Think of the customer service needs and possible customer complaints that may arise

If you want to start online business and you don?t have experience or investments these are the steps to follow.

1. Write your idea and visualize the whole operation from start to end.
2. Make a decision on what you want to accomplish, either selling products or services or both or your business will specialize in traffic building like social media
3. Do you have plans on the revenue generation for your business
4. Are there any businesses available today doing the similar thing that you want to do and if so what is the value your business will bring that doesn?t already exist
5. How long it will take for you to make money and the profit
6. Brainstorm your idea with the confidential and trustworthy mastermind group

Once you analyze the following steps you can get onto the action plan. Contact the web development company that you want to deal with to discuss your action plan. One of the thing I will recommend you is not just going to any web designer but going to a specialist or a specialist company that expertise both in web and software development as well as Internet marketing. As we always believe starting your business or website is most easiest thing compare to the execution of the marketing. In specific I want the web development and the software company to have expertise in the following areas of Internet marketing essentially such as

1. search engine optimization [SEO]
2. search engine marketing [SEM]
3. social media marketing
4. online advertisement campaign running
5. e-mail marketing
6. coupon and discount marketing [applies to some businesses]
7. mobile marketing
And more?

Once you find the company that has all about what we discussed and expertise then you got to contact them to see if they can provide you solution with no investment in a way to share the revenue. Now the companies will be forced to discuss with you the viability of your product and you be open to their thoughts and ideas and you work with only that company that believes in your project and willing to venture with you. You be open for their ideas and modification recommended by them especially if you believe and trust their expertise and understanding in establishing online businesses and making the successful.

You can also feel free to contact NetUltimate.com the affordable web solutions and Internet marketing company that specializes in establishing online businesses and making it successful with no money down and no contract confidently. Our friendly customer service will discuss and understand your business needs and come out with a Plan that is tailor-made just made for you. GameStop plans to sell Nexus 7, starts taking Android tablet trade-ins

Nexus 7 review home screen

Google's Andy Rubin suggested the Nexus 7 would reach third-party US stores eventually -- we just didn't think it would be this quickly. GameStop says it's taking pre-orders for the 16GB version of the Android 4.1 tablet starting today. At $249, it will cost exactly what it does in its currently exclusive Google Play home; in other words, one of the parties involved could be taking a voluntary hit on the already razor-thin profit margins. The 7-inch slate should be arriving roughly at the same mid-July timeframe as it is for those ordering straight from the Google source.

It wouldn't be GameStop if there weren't trade-ins involved, and sure enough, the game retailer is using the Nexus 7 as the lure. Confirming an earlier leak, the chain is now accepting Android tablet trade-ins worth up to $200 in cash (or $250 in store credit) depending on how pristine the hardware is coming into the store. Play your cards right, and you're very nearly getting the Google-blessed tablet for free. As an extra incentive, any gear whose exchange goes directly towards buying the Nexus 7 will get a 30 percent boost in value. Knowing the buzz surrounding the price-to-performance ratio of the ASUS-made Nexus, we won't be surprised if GameStop suddenly faces a glut of older Android tablets in its backrooms.

Chrome 20 browser released: exclusive 64-bit Linux Flash, fewer MacBook crashes

chrome-20-browser-released-64-bit-linux-flash

If your new MacBook is having kernel panics, or you're forced to run a 32-bit browser in Linux because you need Flash, Google's brought relief with version 20 of Chrome. While acting sheepish about "yet another release," the Chrome Blog said "hundreds of bugs" were fixed, including a MacBook resource leak issue which was temporarily patched by disabling some GPU features. Also, Linux users will finally get full 64-bit support for Flash with Adobe's PPAPI "Pepper" version, but since it was made exclusively for Chrome, Penguin users will be stuck with that browser if they want the feature. To get it, check the source after the br... oh, right, background update. Nevermind.

Movie Review: 'People Like Us' ? CBS Philly

(Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Hall D'Addario star with Michelle Pfeiffer in "People Like Us.")

(Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Hall D?Addario star with Michelle Pfeiffer in ?People Like Us.?)

By Bill Wine
KYW Newsradio 1060

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? In a summer movie season full of comic book superheroes and supernatural creatures, it?s a relief to get the occasional movie focused on people like us.

That?s one of the reasons why the family-secrets drama, People Like Us, is so welcome.

Chris Pine plays Sam Harper, a glib, New York-based, twentysomething wholesaler salesman who learns that he needs to return home to Los Angeles to settle his recently deceased and estranged father?s estate and fulfill his final wishes. It?s clear that Sam is not exactly devastated, to say the least, by the news of his father?s demise.

35 Movie Review: People Like Us

(3 stars out of 4)

When he and his law-student girlfriend, Hannah, played by Olivia Wilde, travel to attend the funeral ?- after Sam tries to delay just long enough to actually miss it ? he learns that his record-producing dad had a secret daughter out of wedlock.?? She?s struggling 30-year-old single mother Frankie, a bartender and recovering alcoholic played by Elizabeth Banks, and she has a rebellious 11-year-old young son, Josh, played by Michael Hall D?Addario.

Sam?s father has left instructions about $150,000 that Sam is supposed to deliver to the half-sister he didn?t know he had. However, Sam needs that money to get out of debt.? So he insinuates his way into the life of Frankie and her son, but without revealing who he is or why he?s there.

Nor does he share this information with his grieving and seemingly resentful mother, played by Michelle Pfeiffer.

Debuting director Alex Kurtzman ?- who has written screenplays for such high-profile movies as Transformers, Star Trek (starring Pine), and Cowboys & Aliens ?- works from a semi-autobiographical script he co-wrote with Roberto Orci and Jody Lambert that perhaps delays the inevitable confession by Sam that the whole film hinges on to a point that strains credulity.

But the film is so emotion-drenched that we?re willing to go with it.

And the key performances make it work.? Pine is fine in the lead, clearly demonstrating vividly the effect that Sam?s parent issues have had on the formation of his aggressive personality.

But it?s Banks and Pfeiffer, both playing characters struggling admirably with obvious emotional wounds, who absolutely shine.

All three get the opportunity to show us colors in their acting palettes that they?ve rarely been able to dip into before, and all three turn in sympathetic performances that get us invested by not only making us understand what they?ve been through dealing with either an absent father or an unfaithful husband, but also help us to feel pleased about their growth and closure by film?s end.

So we?ll inherit 3 stars out of 4 for a sibling-discovery dramedy about family and forgiveness for grownups, People Like Us.?? With comic book-inspired fantasies all over the movie marketplace, it?s emotionally compelling and accessible movies like this that bring us, gratefully, back down to earth.

Nannies, Baby-sitters, and Workers Comp Coverage: Yes, the U.S. ...

Most Washington families with children have hired a baby-sitter or nanny to watch their young ones at some point. These workers are generally?paid in cash for a defined period of time. This raises questions of whether the situation creates an employer-employee relationship, and whether it entitles an injured baby-sitter to worker?s compensation benefits.

Under both the federal Worker?s Compensation Act and Washington?s Department of Labor and Industries, most employers in Washington state must provide?worker?s compensation coverage for workers they hire. However, employers of ?domestic servants? are exempt from the requirement. Unfortunately, the definition of such work remains vague. So, what exactly is a?domestic servant?

Significantly, the many workers compensation departments (such as that in Wisconsin and many southern states) treat the positions of domestic baby-sitters and nannies as exempt from the Act, which exposes these workers to general?negligence claims.

The title ?domestic servant? is clearly antiquated. It brings to mind historical images of butlers, maids, cooks and others toiling away on the plantations and mansions of the wealthy. Yet although terms have changed, now favoring ?domestic worker?, the realities of inequality in the workplace remain. For example, in Wisconsin, without citation or authority, a Department?publication indicated that it has ?consistently ruled that persons hired in a private home to?perform general household services such as nanny, baby-sitting, cooking, cleaning, laundering,?gardening, yard and maintenance work and other duties commonly associated with the meaning?of domestic servant, meet the definition of domestic servant intended by the Act.??Significantly, the Department appears to treat the prevalent positions of in-home baby-sitter?or nanny as exempt from the Act, which could expose the in-home ?employers? to general?negligence claims.

As a result, nannies and other domestic workers (or ?servants?) in Wisconsin can face financial hardship from a workplace injury. Because of this, those who perform general household services should attempt to obtain a personal insurance policy for workplace injuries. Household employer should also consider offering worker?s compensation insurance as a benefit, even though they are not legally required to do so. This will undoubtedly attract high-quality employees,?and is the ethical thing to do. Include benefits into a written employment agreement,?such as a nanny contract, and?consult an insurance agent or Workers Compensation lawyer to make sure you have incorporated the appropriate coverage.

Nucor Steel to Expand Blytheville Plant By $115 ... - Talk Business

Nucor Corp. will grow its Blytheville steel mill with a $115 million production expansion.

The project was announced Tuesday (June 26) by Nucor-Yamato Steel Company, a joint venture between Nucor and Yamato Kogyo Co. Ltd. The major expansion will add production of hot rolled sheet piling to Nucor?s Blytheville steel mill.

Sheet and H-piling products are used in marine construction, bridge and highway construction, heavy civil construction, storm protection, underground commercial parking and environment containment projects in the infrastructure and construction industry.

The Blytheville addition should be completed in early 2014, according to company officials.

?The United States is a country that innovates, makes and builds things.? This investment enhances Nucor-Yamato Steel?s ability to make innovative, cost effective sheet piling designs,? said Daniel R. DiMicco, Nucor?s Chairman and CEO. ?American-made piling products are key to our country?s investments in infrastructure and creating jobs.?

?This project also supports our strategy of investing in current operations to build on our synergies in the piling and foundation market serviced by our recent Skyline Steel LLC acquisition, as well as our existing Harris Rebar business. These investments not only enhance our steel industry leadership status, but most importantly, position Nucor to meet the growing demands of our customers,? DiMicco added.

Suspected gas blast destroys homes, kills child

?

One child was killed after blast that ripped through homes outside of Manchester. Msnbc.com's Dara Brown reports.

By msnbc.com staff

An explosion in England left at least one child dead after five terraced houses were destroyed in a suspected gas blast.

Firefighters continue searching through the rubble in Manchester for anyone who might be trapped. One man was taken to the hospital with severe burns, BBC reported.

"It's like a war zone - tiles that have blown off literally across the streets, there's just debris everywhere. It's mad," Alex Perkins, who lives nearby, told BBC. "It's just empty, there's nothing there, just bricks on the floor, just rubble."

Georgian Ulla, who also lives on the street, told the BBC her house "shook like it was an earthquake."

"All the lights shook - I thought someone was breaking in to begin with," she added. "First thing that I saw was all the toys on the floor. Apparently there are kids that live in the house."

The explosion was felt half a mile away, and shock waves broke windows, set off car alarms and littered the area with fragments of roof slates. At least 100 homes were evacuated, and 30 firefighters were on the scene.

Craig Needham, who runs a nearby garage, told the BBC that he and his employees ran outside when they heard the blast.

"We could just see a black plume. We thought a bomb had dropped," he said.

Pentagon holds gay pride event

(AP) ? The Defense Department for the first time marked gay pride month Tuesday, with a panel discussion that packed an auditorium of about 400 uniformed and civilian Pentagon employees.

The panel discussion for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender troops came nine months after repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy under which gay service members were fired from the military if they disclosed their sexual orientation.

Top Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson praised the military for adapting to the end of the old policy with professionalism. And a panel of troops and former troops told of their experiences before and after the policy ended.

Does Jupiter Have More Water Than NASA's Galileo Detected?

I think that the 50 years of space exploration shows that we are most interested in life that is somewhat like us, in settings we can understand. Bacteria on Mars ? Fish on Europa ? Yes, launch the spacecraft! Floating life at 40 km altitude on Venus or in the clouds of Jupiter or Saturn ? Not so much. And, yet, the atmospheres of both Venus and Jupiter show signs of being out of chemical equilibria, the essential signature of a biological system.

People need to understand how slowly we are exploring the solar system. Yes, substantial progress is being made, but it is taking a long time to settle even the most basic questions. Ones that are rated secondary (such as life on Jupiter) could take a century or more to address.

4 killed in Oregon plane crash

ELMIRA, Ore. (AP) ? A small plane crashed soon after taking off from a private airstrip in Oregon timber country Saturday and killed all four people on board, authorities said.

The small plane went down around 3:10 p.m. in a rural area west of Eugene, according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

Citing witness reports, authorities said the plane began to lose altitude shortly after take-off and hit a large tree that Lane County District No. 1 Fire Chief Terry Ney said tore off a wing of the aircraft.

The single-engine Cessna landed upside down, Ney said. Fire authorities pronounced the four people inside the aircraft dead at the scene.

The small plane "for whatever reason didn't clear the woods," Ney told the Eugene Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/LRKqln ).

Details about the victims and their names were being held pending notification of next of kin.

Resident Debbie Parker, who lives near the site of the crash, told the Register-Guard that she had just returned to her house when she heard the plane hit the ground.

"Didn't sound real strong," she said. "And then I heard it crash."

Ney, the fire chief, said there was no fire at the scene of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board was en route Saturday to investigate the crash while the sheriff's office helped secure the scene.

Lane County records show the airstrip where the plane took off is owned by Conrad Magnuson and known as Crow-Mag Airport, according to the Register-Guard.

(AP) ? Loud sirens, flashing lights and countless rainbow flags and banners accompanied uniformed police officers, cheerleaders and politicians who marched in San Francisco's gay pride parade Sunday, the 42nd year the city has celebrated the lesbian, gay and transgender community.

More than 200 floats made their way down Market Street, the city's main thoroughfare. A few marchers were dressed in elaborate, brightly colored outfits made from balloons, while many other participants and parade watchers wore hardly anything.

Angel Nava, 19, of Sacramento, Calif., wearing just a pair of skimpy orange-colored shorts, stood with his arms crossed, apparently chilled, but still in good humor.

"I think all these people are beautiful," he said.

Mayor Ed Lee was set to speak at the city's Civic Center ? near the parade's end-point ? later Sunday. He'll appear not far from where gay rights activist and San Francisco City Supervisor Harvey Milk famously addressed gay pride celebrants more than 30 years ago.

Organizers said San Francisco's weekend events are the largest LGBT gathering in the nation, but thousands were also celebrating in Chicago and New York City, where parade-goers are toasting the anniversary of the state's same-sex marriage law.

In Chicago, large crowds gathered on the city's North Side, with many saying it was time for Illinois to allow gay marriage. Sunday's parade comes just weeks after 25 Illinois couples sued for the right to marry.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez have refused to defend the lawsuit, saying the state's gay marriage ban violates the constitution. Gay marriage opponents have said they're strategizing over how to intervene.

Last year, several floats were vandalized before the parade began. Chicago police said there have been no reports of trouble.

New York's march exuded diversity, from grand marshal Cyndi Lauper to the mayor, the police commissioner and the governor.

"New York is a place where you can do whatever you want to do," Mayor Michael Bloomberg declared before he joined the Fifth Avenue parade at noon.

He said he had a message for the rest of America: "The government should get out of your personal life."

Hundreds of thousands of spectators crowded sidewalks a dozen deep, cheering and waving rainbow-colored flags for the annual festivities one year after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Marriage Equality Act into law.

The governor appeared Sunday with his girlfriend, Food Network chef Sandra Lee.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn came as a newlywed, married last month to longtime partner Kim Catullo.

"A year ago, I was walking with my fiancee," Quinn said. "Today, I'm marching with my wife, my father and the mayor."

San Francisco's parade came a day after a smaller march in the city's Dolores Park and the so-called "Pink Saturday" street party.

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown waved as he rode by in a yellow convertible. A jail bus, adorned with rainbow banners, blared its siren and flashed its lights.

The Gay Asian Pacific Alliance, LGBT for Obama, Out4 Immigration and Marriage Equality USA were among the marchers. Two men, marching hand-in-hand and waving a sign that read "Frank and Joe, 12 Years Together," received a warm cheer from the crowded sidewalks.

Jeff Haas said he and his wife, Susie, have been coming to watch the parade for several decades, missing only a few years in between.

"I'm really proud of the city and I think it's wonderful that we continue to celebrate this," Susie Haas said.

Kathy Caprino: What's in Your God Box?

Last month, I had the deep pleasure of speaking with award-winning women's marketing expert and now playwright, author and actor Mary Lou Quinlan about her new book, play and programs called The God Box Project. I was blessed too to have a personal preview of the power of The God Box: Sharing My Mother's Gift of Faith, Love and Letting Go. I attended Mary Lou's book launch party in New York City and heard her speak firsthand of her mother Mary's transformative ritual of writing notes in which she shared her brief prayers to God on behalf of everyone whom she loved, cared about and wished the best for in her life. Reading the book, I felt changed somehow, reminded of how, when I'm stressed and over-the-top busy as many of us are each day, we move away from the compassion and kindness in our hearts to thinking only of ourselves and our own self-preservation, closing ourselves down from our most loving and caring selves.

About The God Box

As Mary Lou explains, when her beloved mother, Mary Finlayson, died, her family was left bereft -- until Quinlan found her mother's "God Box," or rather, boxes. These simple containers were stuffed with tiny notes written by Mary, asking and praying for everything from the right flooring for her daughter's new home to a cure for her own blood cancer. Mary's petitions are presented with love and without expectation. Note by note, Quinlan unearths insights into her mother's compassion, faith, and perseverance, and revelations of her innermost thoughts -- nostalgic, surprising, and even a bit shocking. And through the journey, the author discovers her own more empathetic, more engaged self -- the woman her mother had believed in all along.

Curious as to Mary Lou's transformation from corporate and entrepreneurial powerhouse focused on helping advertising clients understand the inner thoughts of female consumers, to author and performer who is in essence a spiritual midwife of her mother's lessons in humility, compassion and care, I asked Mary Lou to share about that transition.

Mary Lou explains:

I realize in looking back that my mother supersedes all. In reflecting on my career, I see and appreciate deeply that I built a successful professional life and made my mark in marketing. I believe I followed a path that has been diverse, accomplished, and satisfying. My job as head of my marketing firm Just Ask a Woman (now a division of Mary Lou Quinlan & Co.) was to tell the truth -- the whole truth -- about what women feel and hold inside, and to honor those thoughts and feelings. Perhaps it's the time of my life now where I realize that I am strong enough to speak from my heart, fully myself -- to integrate the various parts of me and tell my own whole truth. The advantage of being an entrepreneur is that I don't answer to anyone -- other than my clients -- and in the end, with my business being about telling the truth about what women feel, why would I draw the line personally about what I deeply feel?
I've always been the same woman at work -- determined, funny, happy, passionate. But certainly in my years in advertising, my job was to win and retain the business of clients and doing so sometimes required of me to draw lines between my personal views and those of my clients. My messages were focused on my clients' interests, not my own. That's the job -- leading an advertising agency means putting my clients' needs first. But when I launched Just Ask a Woman in 1999, I created a company where I started to let my full voice be heard. The next wave of sharing my authentic voice was in 2005 when I wrote my book Time Off for Good Behavior. Telling the truth about women in business and in corporate America rattled cages in a big way. For instance, I shared in the book that it's okay to take a break from your job and do what you need to restore yourself. Sometimes work just isn't enough. And in another book, What She's Not Telling You, I also revealed that women often tell half-truths -- sometimes as a form of defense that keeps women stuck, but also as a way of detouring a probing marketer from getting inside their inner space.

As I've progressed, I've now hit a point where telling my mother's story -- one of spirituality and of practical life lessons, aspiration, love, and even death -- feels right for me. A friend said to me, "This is the job you were meant to grow into. This was meant to be your life."

Women and the Workforce

About women's challenges in the workforce, Mary Lou shared that women's advancement in business remains an uphill climb. Arguments made in the media and by many corporate leaders and managers about how women should behave and advance in business seem to continually force women into narrower and narrower avenues of compliance. Women are told they should network but not just network with women, for instance.

Unfortunately, there's been a focus on what women are not doing correctly. Career paths are not more free-flow as they should be -- they're getting tighter and tighter, and blame keeps falling back on women as to why they haven't advanced, as opposed to our looking at the broader culture, systems and support. I'm all about letting yourself be fully ambitious and internally sound -- not having to make a choice between the two. When do you wake up and say, "This is my life!"? When you retire? That's too late.

The ultimate outcome of The God Box Project, play and programs?

The God Box is a wonderful, sharing, compassionate way to bring hope to your life. It's also a comforting ritual particularly in our world today that feels so worried, tight, negative, divisive. To share something unifying and uplifting is a powerful legacy that I dream of passing on, on Mom's behalf.

My dream is that millions of people around the world -- men and women -- will begin the tradition of The God Box, and find in that little ritual some needed relief, hope, comfort that supports their own beliefs. I believe that The God Box can truly help make a more compassionate, kind and loving world. It also helps us rethink the relationships that were so fundamental in our lives and our upbringing -- our mother-daughter/father-daughter relationships and what they gave us. Reconnecting to our love for our family, and healing what let us down in our family lives, is also an outcome I dream of for The God Box.

To me, Mary Lou offers women the world over a powerful and successful role model for living an authentic, integrated and meaningful professional life. I for one am so grateful for Mary Lou's work -- for giving me a pathway to see and believe that supporting our deeply held spiritual beliefs doesn't have to be something we keep separate from our professional identities. Honoring our full selves and bringing forth our compassionate, loving hearts in both our personal and professional lives will help us heal the world back to health.

Check out The God Box Project.com (and don't miss the new The God Box mobile app on iTunes). Feel how transformational it can be to share your deepest hopes and prayers for yourself and for your loved ones and those you care about.

The birth control pill, also known as an oral contraceptive or simply referred to as ?The Pill,? is hailed as one of the most important innovations in women?s health. Before the advent of the Pill, many women were forced to endure multiple pregnancies, having no reliable way of preventing conception. Some women died from giving birth because their bodies were too weak or too exhausted to carry another child to term, or gave birth to malformed children.

After her mother?s death from birthing her eleventh sibling, nineteen year old Margaret Sanger became a nurse and advocate for the development of contraceptives for women. She later found an ally in Katherine McCormick, the wealthy widow of an inventor who funded the research for the creation of the birth control pill. Gregory Pincus, an American doctor and researcher had been studying hormonal biology and steroidal hormones, saw the role that hormones played in the conception of rabbits. With the financial backing from McCormick and Sanger, Pincus approached pharmaceutical company Searle to help them develop the birth control pill. Although Searle declined in the beginning, largely because of the austere birth control laws of the day, an accidental discovery by one of his scientists coupled with Pincus?s research led the pharmaceutical company into production of the first oral contraceptive for women. In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Enovid, the first birth control pill. It was later found that Enovid caused terrible side effects, mostly because the dosage at the time was about ten times higher than was needed.

Today, after continuous research and development, women now have the birth control pill and other contraceptive drugs and devices to choose from to prevent unwanted pregnancies. This is a long way from the stifling laws in place from 1873 to 1965, when the Comstock laws deemed contraception as illegal. As society becomes increasingly permissive and open about sexual matters, the barrier between what is liberal and what is possibly immoral is constantly being challenged and often bewcomes the subject of heated debate.

One such moral debate is currently underway. A decision made by officials from King Middle School in Portland, Maine has sparked a national debate in the United States. The controversy stems from their resolve to offer a full range of contraception, including birth control pills, to students aged from eleven to fifteen belonging to grades six to eight. This extends the range of contraception available to students in this age group who previously had access only to condoms from the local sexual health clinics. Although they will need parental consent to use the city-run health care clinic, the students will now be able to obtain prescriptions for birth control pills and other forms of contraception without their parents finding out. This comes after a request from the school?s health center to make the pills available to children of high school age who were still attending middle school.

But many protest that these children are simply too young to have free access to such forms of birth control, and fear that this will lead children to think that having sex at such a young age is correct. But advocates of the decision say that they would rather give children these options than see a twelve year old become pregnant, citing the rising number of teenage mothers in the United States. Nationwide, one study showed more than 17,000 pregnancies for girls 14 or younger.

Besides, advocates contend, the children will receive extensive counseling before being given the prescription. The idea of making birth control pills available to that particular age group is not to promote promiscuity but to keep students safe, and in school. Many children who don?t have a strong parental advocate at home need someone they can turn to and trust to answer questions regarding their sexuality at a time when they are constantly bombarded with sexually suggestive images.

In the end, whether one is for or against the scheme, it is important to strike an appropriate balance between addressing the growing problem of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases and upholding a moral standard for all students. People must recognize the significant role that parents and other family should play in educating children about sex and its consequences.

Cyprus President: Our economy is doing well

We should not cause panic to the Cyprus market about our economy, he added.

President Christofias has claimed that Cyprus economy is doing well, saying that if it is deemed necessary to apply to the EU support mechanism, it will be done because of the banking sector.

Christofias said that the Government is trying to avoid applying to the support mechanism, adding if required, this will be officially announced and substantiated.

We should not cause panic to the Cyprus market about our economy, he added.

He added that "our economy is doing well, and our efforts to tackle the fiscal deficit and public debt are also going well and we have positive results"

"Unfortunately we have the problem with the banks, or rather with one of the banks which we are trying to address in a number of ways", he pointed out.

He called on the opposition to tone down its criticism for "unity on the home front".

Commenting on remarks by the opposition about taking measures for the economy without any prior briefing, President Christofias explained that the Cabinet had not yet taken any decision and assured that both the parties and unions will be briefed and take part in the dialogue about economic measures.

We are preparing measures, this is true, and we will have a dialogue", he added.

He also expressed the view that the country needs tranquility as well as unity of actions and goals.

Asked about efforts to secure a loan from Russia, he said "we will let you know the results soon, either positive or negative, we do not know yet." ??Copyright Famagusta Gazette 2012 All comments are now moderated

Know Which General Contractor to Hire for Your Home Remodel ...

When it comes to remodeling your home, we believe that your general contractor should be your best friend. ?It?s unfortunate that many homeowners have less than flattering things to say about their general contractor! ?Remember, you?re in control, and you are hiring someone whose job it is to make your life easier, not harder, whether you work with us or another firm.

With this in mind, you should know what to prepare for when you hire a general contractor in Naperville. ?Here are a few tips, advantages and what you should expect. ?The main advantage you should be seeking is their ability to effectively and efficiently manage projects.

Your general contractor should take care of the entire project regardless of the size. ?In some instances this can include hiring architects and subcontractors. ?The entire project should be handled start to finish, including the final inspection. ?That does not mean that you cannot be involved. ?However, there are literally hundreds of decisions that will need to be made in your project, and you and the contractor should decide up-front which of those (typically the most major ones) you would like to be involved in.

Taking all the project details out of your hands and reducing your stress is the main reason for hiring a general contractor. ?The GC will handle the hiring of subcontractors, scheduling their arrivals in the proper order, and keeping them on schedule, once the home improvement plans are finalized. ?This means the general contractor will take care all the details, such as which plumber in town to use, so that you don?t have to worry about it. ?You do not have to worry about how long the framing contractor is taking to frame the addition-your general contractor will be on it.

Some home renovations are simple and can be done relatively easily by the average person acting as his or her general contractor. ?However, if it is a large renovation, or something you have little experience with, a good general contractor will be a godsend. ?General contractors generally possess the knowledge and experience to get the job done efficiently and quickly. ?For larger jobs they will make sure that the subcontractors are doing the job properly and with high quality as well. ?In general, because it?s unlikely that you?ll have the time or experience to dedicate to the task, larger projects are better taken care of by a general contractor.

While general contractors can be great, it is important to find a good one. ?It can lead to a lot of headaches if you have a bad general contractor. ?Make sure they are a good fit for you by meeting with them, conducting interviews, and getting peer reviews and testimonials. ?During the interview, ask job related questions to make sure the home renovation contractor knows what is expected and how to get it done. ?Be sure to ask how they intend to pick and supervise their subcontractors.

Keeping all of these tips in mind will help you get a better general contractor for the job. ?The end goal is to finish your home improvement project with as little stress as possible which typically means two things ? on time and on budget! ?The information and knowledge that general contractors possess can make life easier for you, but that won?t mean that they are all the same quality. ?Do not be afraid to shop around or ask questions and get to know your general contractor. ?After all, it is the general contractor?s job to ensure that you are comfortable with everything. ?To learn more about general contractors, go here.

PFT: NFL?says Vitt not accused of giving to pool

Anthony HargroveAP

Maybe it really wasn?t Anthony Hargrove?s voice saying, ?Give me my money.?

The video/audio of a comment supposedly made by the former Saints defensive end during the third quarter of the 2009 NFC title game provides further proof of Drew Brees? point (even if it wasn?t articulated the best way possible) that the media has more power than anyone realizes.

The NFL, however, fully realizes.

And the NFL used the power of the media to make millions believe on Monday that Saints defensive Anthony Hargrove said, ?Bobby, give me my money? after being told by assistant head coach Joe Vitt that Vikings quarterback Brett Favre may have suffered a broken leg in the 2009 NFC title game.

The seed was planted and fertilized when a dozen members of the media covering Monday?s appeal hearing received an invitation to witness an encore performance of former prosecutor Mary Jo White?s summary of evidence.? The relevant excerpt from the transcript of the media session contains White?s explanation, comments from NFL Security chief Jeff Miller, comments from NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, and two of the members of the media ? Peter King and Jim Varney.

White initially explained that the video contains Hargrove?s ?voice and picture.?? After the video was shown once to the members of the media, Aiello suggested that the media pay attention to Hargrove winking and smiling after hearing that Favre broke his leg.? White later claims that Hargrove ?smiles and winks and states, ?Bobby, pay me my money.??

Varney asks White, ?How do you know it?s Hargrove?s voice??

White, perhaps not recognizing in that moment the ironic link to a very common lawyer joke, says, ?Because you can see his lips moving.?

But here?s the problem, and I didn?t notice this the first time I saw the video.?

When Hargrove?s lips can be seen moving, his voice can?t be heard.

Only after Hargrove?s face is fully obscured by the head and shoulders of defensive tackle Remi Ayodele are the words ?give me my money? audible.

No one has questioned this because the media present at the session was told ? and in turn told the rest of us ? that Hargrove said, ?Bobby, give me my money.?? Even Peter King, who seemed curious and a bit skeptical in the transcript, affirmatively stated twice in his article following the media session that Hargrove said what the NFL claims he said.

Watch the video.? When Hargrove?s lips are moving, no corresponding voice can be heard.? So if his voice wasn?t picked up by the NFL Films microphones when we could see his lips moving, how can we suddenly hear him say, ?Bobby, give my me money? after his lips and head and mouth are obstructed?

Also, don?t forget that Hargrove didn?t apply the hit that resulted in Favre possibly having a broken leg.? Instead, Favre had been hit low by McCray and high by Ayodele.? So why would Hargrove be asking for any money at all?

None of this changes the fact that, barring evidence that the phrase was added artificially after the fact (I?m not saying it was . . . yet), someone said ?give me my money.?? Which supports the conclusion that there was a bounty on Favre.

But I don?t believe the video shown by the league to the media shows that Hargrove said it.? And I can?t believe that the NFL presumes conclusively that he said it.? And I can?t believe the NFL sold it as fact to the media.? And I can?t believe the media swallowed the hook.

And I can?t believe I didn?t pay close enough attention to figure it out before today.

And given Hargrove?s passionate denial that it?s his voice, I believe him.

This serious flaw in the presentation of the evidence necessarily undermines the league?s entire investigation, further reinforcing the importance of asking tough questions about the proof, the process, and all other aspects of the case.? Regardless of whether the players are guilty or innocent, the NFL has peddled to the public, via the media, a stream of inconsistencies, mischaracterizations, and embellishments that raise legitimate concerns about the competence and/or the motives of everyone whose fingerprints are on the file.
